  • The iconic Bonzer can opener is to be relaunched in black to help meet the demands of modern, 21st Century kitchens.
    The latest step to change the colour of the mechanism to black has been implemented to improve hygiene standards in professional kitchens.
    The new Bonzer Black will be officially launched by Mitchell & Cooper at Hotelympia 2010 at ExCel London, starting on February 28.
    Richard Francis, Managing Director of Mitchell & Cooper, said: “It’s quite simple really – as everyone with a black car knows, dirt shows up better on black than any other colour. If the dirt is obvious, then it will be cleaned more immediately and efficiently.
    “Our mission is to help make kitchens cleaner, safer places and can openers are potential dirt traps – ask any EHO! Over the years we have introduced features to help kitchen staff keep their Bonzer clean, such as a quick-release blade carrier, dishwasher friendly blade and cutting mechanism and anti-bacterial coated blades.
    “The Bonzer Black will be the cleanest of all.”
    The Bonzer was first produced in the 1940s but the famous design has been constantly updated by manufacturer Mitchell & Cooper to meet the needs of contemporary catering.
    Although the name Bonzer is often applied generically to any table top can opener, authentic Bonzers are distinguishable by the red knob on the handle.
