Cathedral Quarter Hotel receives special commendation

In just its first year of trading, Derby’s only boutique hotel has received a special commendation in the prestigious Conde Nast 2009 Johansens Annual Awards for Excellence.

Cathedral Quarter Hotel, which occupies the former police museum and government offices on St Mary’s Gate, was given a special award for its wine list at the Annual Awards for Excellence, sponsored by Conde Nast Johansens, whose hotel guides showcase the world’s most prestigious accommodation and meeting venues.

The 2009 Awards for the UK and Ireland were announced at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, and recognise the finest standards and best value for money in luxury independent accommodation across the globe.

Cathedral Quarter Hotel was named ‘Best Newcomer’ in the category Wine List of the Year 2009 for its extensive wine list, which features more than 200 varieties of wines and champagne. Its wines originate from some of the most interesting wine regions and inspiring wine makers in the world and are stored in what was originally the strong room of the police station.

The award winning wine list is served in the Hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Opulence. Each wine has been chosen to compliment the restaurant’s menu of modern British inspired food, which is prepared fresh using local and seasonal ingredients wherever possible.

The Finesse Collection was established in 2000 and includes The Lace Market Hotel in Nottingham, The Lion Hotel in Belper and Donington Manor in Castle Donington.
