| Royal Free Hospital launches new restaurant After months of hard work and much anticipation, the Royal Free Hospital in London has proudly launched its new state-of-the-art Foodhouse restaurant, officially opened by local actor and writer, Andrew Sachs. OCS Healthcare have been working closely with the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust and have designed and installed the new Foodhouse restaurant, which serves the best in fresh, healthy and contemporary cooking. Chris Cracknell, Chief Executive of OCS, gave Andrew Sachs a tour of the restaurant, who then proceeded to “switch on” screens showing the restaurants colour coded menus. The codes of red, amber and green are designed to alert diners to the amount of calories and saturated fat that dishes may contain so they can make healthier eating choices. Andrew told an audience of trust and OCS staff: “I’m very impressed and happy to be here. I’ve lived in this area since 1943, although at different addresses. I’ve never been to the Royal Free as a patient but I’ve been here as an out-patient visitor. Good luck to the new restaurant.” The Royal Free’s chief executive Andrew Way said: “Thank you to Andrew Sachs for looking around our new restaurant and attending the opening. The Royal Free sees 700,000 patients a year and has 4,500 staff, and we have a commitment to encouraging healthy eating. “The restaurant helps patients, visitors and staff eating here to make choices that promote a healthy lifestyle, and this opening recognises how the Royal Free and OCS have got to this position.” Chris Cracknell commented “It’s really great to see how well the Foodhouse restaurant is doing and it’s refreshing to see this new shift towards more contemporary food for hospitals. Our partnership with The Royal Free is really positive and we look forward to building on it.” The new Foodhouse restaurant, complete with Costa Coffee bar, is open to staff, patients and visitors. It offers 160 menus including healthy eating options, bistro-style fresh food cooked to order and choices at the budget end of the range. The ten-year contract will also see an investment in excess of £2 million for major refurbishment of the food service facilities at the hospital, aimed at implementing a state-of-the-art bedside service for patients by investing in a newly built patient foodservices kitchen and thirty computer controlled mobile food service units offering patients a choice just before they eat their meal.
