  • 1 . Ground breaking product hits half million meal mark

  • An innovative Indian sauce blend has been enjoyed by half a million people since it was launched into the foodservice sector just six months ago.
The 500,000th meal made with Perween’s Cooking Secrets, a range of ready to cook sauce blends produced by Zahra Foods, was served to student Charlotte Jackson at Sheffield Hallam University.
Perween’s Cooking Secrets is a pioneering sauce blend specially designed for ease of use, which delivers authentic Indian dishes in minutes.
“Chefs simply add the sauce blend to water, add the meat and allow it to simmer,” explains Zahra Foods’ Business Manager Darren Robinson. “Hundreds of authentic-tasting portions can be made using just one pan, in only 15 minutes.”
The half millionth meal was served to Charlotte by Gagan Kapoor, Food Production Manager at popular university eatery Chef Hallam Central.
“I cannot help but notice the positive impact Perween’s Cooking Secrets curry sauce blends have had on my food costs and the reduction in my preparation times,” Gagan said. “I have received many great compliments from both students and staff alike with regard to the taste of my new dishes.
“As a classically trained chef and with Indian background I can vouch that its authenticity, versatility and taste is very close to traditional Indian restaurant dishes,” he added.
Chef Hallam Central serves Perween’s Cooking Secrets weekly as part of its rotating world foods menu, and it is consistently popular.
“We can easily serve between 200 and 300 portions during a lunchtime,” said Gagan.
Perween’s Cooking Secrets was developed by Perween Warsi, who has been at the forefront of Indian cuisine in the UK for more than 20 years. The range includes seven authentic variants: Korma, Tikka Masala, Balti, Rogan Josh, Bhuna, Madras and Jalfrezi.
“Perween’s Cooking Secrets is ideal for caterers thanks to its unique format; it’s convenient as well as delicious,” adds Darren Robinson. “The blends include all the flavour ingredients needed to make great tasting, authentic curries - the caterer just needs to add the protein or vegetables.
“It gives the same high quality results as cooking a curry from scratch, but much more quickly and easily. Instead of requiring long lists of additional ingredients, caterers require only one, which can be stored in an ambient environment even when opened.”
  • The Perween’s Cooking Secrets range is also popular in schools and pubs, and is ideal for event caterers. It is available from major wholesalers, or contact Darren for further information on 01332 277112.
