  • 1 . Fairtrade Drink Me Chai Latte

  • Drink Me Chai can now offer its customers an ethically sound choice with its special Fairtrade blend of Spiced Chai Latte. The blend, which is the first and only Fairtrade instant Chai Latte on the market in Europe, has already been selected by Virgin trains to serve onboard their fleet of trains. The product is available to trade in 4x1 kilo drums and 6x250g tubs and to consumers online at www.discountcoffee.co.

Drink Me Chai Latte blends, offer a traditional taste of Chai Latte; a luxurious relaxing blend of exotic spices, black tea and skimmed milk. It’s a different kind of hot drink – based on the original ‘latte’ created in India over 5,000 years ago!

We are delighted to have finally received certification for the only Fairtrade instant Chai Latte, as this allows operators such as Virgin Trains, whose hot beverages are 100% Fairtrade, to also offer their customers a premium Chai Latte.”

The special Chai Latte Fairtrade blend has been certified by the FAIRTRADE Foundation which gives Drink Me Chai the license to use its familiar mark on the new product.

For a product to display the FAIRTRADE Mark it has to meet International Fairtrade standards which are agreed through a process of research and consultation with key participants in the Fairtrade scheme.

With consumers becoming increasingly aware of how and where their food is produced, through campaigns such as Fairtrade Fortnight, it is important for food & drink manufacturers to support a move towards achieving an international trade system based on justice and fairness.

  • 2 . Peros asks customers to show off during Fairtrade Fortnight

  • More than 30 million people in the UK knew about Fairtrade Fortnight in 2010, so it’s a great opportunity to shout about your Fairtrade offering. In 2011 the Fortnight celebrates that fact by asking everyone to ‘Show Off Your Label’ between 28th February and 13th March. It’s a chance to encourage customers to try out Fairtrade products and make a permanent swap. As in previous years, Peros will be helping their customers make the most of Fairtrade Fortnight by supporting sampling events, providing promotional packs and offering price deals on some of their most popular lines.

“Sampling events have proved very popular in the past and we’ll be running these with a number of our customers again this year,” says James Roberts, joint Managing Director of Peros. “In order to draw as much attention to these events as possible we can provide promotional packs containing branded Fairtrade Fortnight POS materials such as bunting, posters and table talkers. Another great way of promoting an event is to use one of our ‘coffee bikes’. Fully branded in appropriate livery, the bike never fails to pull in a crowd. We can even supply a barista to help cope with the extra espresso traffic!” he adds.

Peros has also developed four fantastic pricing deals to help customers “Show Off Your Label” during the fortnight, covering some of their most popular products. The first is Nero & Bianco Fairtrade & Organic chocolate - indulgence with conscience – available in milk, dark and white bars. The second is One World Cookies, made using Fairtrade sugar and available in triple choc, fruit, ginger and chocolate chip flavours. The third is One World Muffins, made using Fairtrade sugar and available in chocolate, toffee, lemon and blueberry. Finally Fruit Hit, the 100% Fairtrade, 500ml fruit juices available in apple, orange, orange & mango and tropical. For each product there is a ‘buy four cases get one free’ offer on orders from 14th February to 13th March 2011.

  • “For ongoing support throughout the year we offer our customers promotional calendars,” says James. “There’s one for each of our major coffee brands – Cafédirect and Eros – and we’ll be supporting the offers with special deals allowing customers to make the most of the opportunities. These A4-sized, table-top presenters have a small footprint to suit even the most crowded counters and, in future, we’ll provide a new range of offers to slot into existing presenters to replace finished promotions.”
