Pupils and teachers at Lambeth primary and special schools will continue to receive healthy school meals after the council awarded Harrison Catering a new five-year contract.

The council announced Harrison catering as the preferred choice following a robust process which involved several bidders. The catering firm, in partnership with Lambeth Council, has gained the trust and support of schools, pupils, and parents to ensure that healthy meal choices are popular which has resulted in Lambeth having one of the greatest pupil uptakes in school meals nationwide.

Special themed days, pupil workshops and individual taster pots will continue to help introduce pupils to new tastes and flavours. Dedicated school based menus are developed by listening to school councils as well as gathering as much feedback as possible from pupils, parents and staff.

Cllr Paul McGlone, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Harrison Catering and Lambeth have a great track record of providing nutritious school meals and I’m delighted that they have been awarded a new contract. The national Healthy Schools Programme takes a whole school approach to healthy eating, physical activity, emotional health and wellbeing. The fact Lambeth has one of the largest uptakes in the country for school meals means we are one of the best performers within this programme.”

Nicola Turk, who manages the contract on behalf of Harrison Catering, added: “We’ve been developing the school meal service in partnership with Lambeth since the very start of the contract, and have been able to introduce a significant improvement to the food served to pupils. This new contract will allow us to continue to develop the meal service by offering an even greater level of local choice for each school.”
